So as I see from the blog site. I’m not getting many followers. What’s up with that? Not interesting enough? You know that the Deborah of old got direction or at least a lot of inspiration from god. How I’m not sure, but would you like to hear how, this, Deborah met god?
I’m a huge fan of the rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar. I bought the album in 1971 and saw the movie from the back of a pickup truck, at the drive-in theatre in 1973. I was hooked.
I loved Norman Jewison and Melvyn Bragg’s take on the story. And the music by Andrew Lloyd Webber with lyrics by Tim Rice was spectacular. Although I have great respect for the many artists who performed in the musical. My favorite was Ted Neely, the actor/vocalist who played the big guy. A handsome fella with a celestial talent.
I would watch the movie whenever it played on tv and saw it performed live on stage twice. It was the second stage performance I saw that featured Ted Neely, at the Merriam Theatre in Philadelphia where I got my big moment.
The poor people sitting near me had to suffer my singing every lyric along with the performers all night. I had been working in the music business and never considered myself the groupie type and definitely not an autograph seeker but, I was determined to meet god, aka Ted Neely.
During the intermission where I was standing in a long line for the ladies room I had an epiphany. I called out: “Anyone know where the cast is staying?” Silence. The girls near me were shaking their heads no. Then from out of nowhere I heard. “Across the street at the Four Seasons.” I almost peed my pants.
As soon as the show was over I made my way to the restaurant/bar of the Four Seasons. I found a tall round table with 3 stools in the bar and positioned myself so I could see as people came into the hotel. A bunch of the cast and orchestra came in. Most were making their way to tables in the restaurant. The bar filled up. I was losing sight of the door and hope. Maybe God didn’t drink.
A couple of guys approached me and asked if they could join me at the 2 free seats available around my table. I said sure. They asked if I was staying at the hotel. I couldn’t lie. I said no, I was at the show and I’m hoping to meet Ted Neely.
“Oh you want to meet Teddie? He’s over there with his wife and kids. Let me get him.” Now I almost sh-t my pants. A moment later Ted Neely walked up to me and said, “Hi, I hoped you enjoyed the show.”
Now you tell me. Have you ever met god?
